Traditional Fishing Setups in Pakistan
Fishing has been an integral part of Pakistani culture for centuries, with traditional fishing setups varying across different regions of the country. In coastal areas like Karachi and Gwadar, local fishermen use wooden boats called \“horis\“ and employ hand-thrown nets known as \“jaal\“ for catching fish.Inland fishing setups in Punjab and Sindh provinces often feature bamboo fishing rods and simple hand lines. The traditional \“bullah\“ fishing method involves using a circular net that is thrown skillfully over the water surface to catch multiple fish at once.
Many Pakistani fishing communities still preserve ancient techniques passed down through generations, using locally available materials like cotton threads, handmade hooks, and natural baits including dough balls and small insects.
