King Charles may be known for his garden talks and royal engagements, but it seems the monarch has also been quietly flexing his diplomatic muscles.

In an exclusive interview with The Guardian on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Charles privately influenced former President Donald Trump following their meeting during Trump’s state visit to the U.K. in September. Advertisement

“I don’t know all the details, but I understand The King sent some important signals to President Trump,” he said, hinting at the behind the scenes sway of the king.

The intervention reportedly came after a tense Oval Office encounter in February, when Trump publicly rebuked Zelensky and abruptly ended talks.

He praised Charles as “very supportive” of Ukraine, highlighting the monarch’s empathy toward Ukrainians enduring the third year of Russia’s full scale invasion.

The President revealed that Trump holds the monarch in “very high regard” and considers him “very important,” a compliment he noted is not often handed out.

While the exact details of their private conversation remain under wraps, Zelensky suggested that the king’s quiet diplomacy may have helped smooth tensions between Kyiv and Washington.

His remarks also reveal how Ukraine’s relationship with Washington has evolved since Trump’s return to office earlier this year.
