Ceefax Football Scores
Ceefax was a revolutionary teletext service that transformed how football fans accessed live scores and match updates during the pre-internet era. Operating from 1974 to 2012, it provided real-time information through television sets, allowing users to navigate pages using their remote controls. The football scores section was particularly popular, especially on weekends when multiple matches were played simultaneously. Fans could check page 302 for latest scores, page 303 for half-time results, and page 304 for full-time results and league tables.
Each match display showed teams in capital letters with scores updated every few minutes. The simple text-based format, usually white text on blue background, became iconic for generations of British football supporters.
Though replaced by digital platforms, Ceefax remains fondly remembered for its reliability and accessibility, serving as the primary instant sports information source before smartphones and high-speed internet became commonplace.
