Mayor to unveil Rs5.5b budget today

The mayor Hyderabad Kashif Ali Shoro is set to table a proposed budget of Rs5.53 billion for fiscal 2025-26 at the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation\“s session on October 13.

A sum of over Rs3.187 billion, including Rs390 million arrears, will be proposed for spending for the salaries and pensions while the development outlay will stand at Rs1.491 billion.

Interestingly, the allocation for the salaries in comparison to the previous financial year is being enhanced by Rs360 million, the development budget will see a dip of about Rs366 million.



The HMC plans to earmark Rs381 million for contingencies, Rs358.35 million for payment of utility bills; Rs50 million for disaster management; and Rs20 million for unforeseen expenses.

The HMC\“s session, which will be dominated by the local government representatives associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party （PPP）, will also sanction the revised budget of Rs5.657 billion for fiscal 2024-25.

Meanwhile, the corporation also expects to collect Rs5.532 billion under the heads of various taxes and grant of the provincial government.

The Octroi Zilla Tax tops the line of earning with Rs3.477 billion funds expected to be generated by that tax.

Two grants of RS790 million and Rs390 million are expected from the Sindh government. The later grant will be utilized for payment of salary and pension arrears of the HMC\“s employees. Another grant of Rs358 million will be sought from the provincial government for payment of utility bills.

The corporation\“s estimated earning from rent will be Rs46.75 million while Rs166 million will be generated from various fees. In the previous year, the HMC claims to have collected Rs224.63 million under the head of fees and Rs42.5 million against rent. facebook twitter whatsup linkded email
