Queen Camilla drops by school during King Charles birthday outing in Wales

  The Queen joins the school children and staff to celebrate Potry Together Day

Queen Camilla made a special stop during her visit to Wales with King Charles on his 77th birthday.  

On Friday, November 14, His and Her Majesty visited the Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, where two celebrations were happening simultaneously. As King Charles walked into a surprise birthday cutting, the Queen later dropped by the nearby Cyfarthfa Park Primary School, which opened in 2014.  Advertisement

The Royal Family Instagram account shared pictures from Camilla’s solo celebration, revealing, “The Queen visited Cyfarthfa Primary School and joined pupils taking part in a guided reading programme, supported by local volunteers.”

Buckingham Palace explained that the school’s annual celebration happened to fall on the King’s birthday this year: “Her Majesty also attended a school assembly to mark Poetry Together Day, an annual celebration that, this year, coincides with The King’s birthday.”

Pictures and clips from the outing showed Camilla beaming as the pupils read aloud their literary works to her.  

Earlier in the day, Camilla stood proudly next to King Charles as he walked into a surprise cake cutting ceremony inside the castle.  

Guests sang Happy Birthday as the monarch appeared visibly touched. He then cut his birthday cake, which was shaped like the grey-bricked Cyfarthfa Castle.
