Jay Leno reveals heartbreaking journey caring for wife through dementia

Jay Leno made honest confession about the realities of caring for his wife, Mavis as she fights with dementia.

The former Tonight Show host admitted that caregiving is not something he does out of compulsion.

He genuinely likes to take care of his wife.

However, there is one particularly heartbreaking aspect of the journey that he shared in a recent interview.

Leno narrated one of the most difficult symptoms of the disease has been Mavis reliving the same painful memory every day.

This recurrence of the memory has been going on for the past three years.

“Probably the toughest part was, every day she’d wake up and realize someone had called today to tell her her mother had passed away,” he described the harrowing memory.

He continued, “And her mother died every day for, like, three years. And it was not just crying, I mean, you’re learning for the first time.”

Despite the emotional toll, Leno has been a rock for her.

Leno pointed out that taking care of his wife doesn’t feel like a burden.

“She’s not forgetting me, you know. That hasn’t happened yet. She seems very — I mean, she seems extremely comfortable now. And she seems happy, and she seems contented. It’s actually OK. It’s good. You know, I enjoy taking care of her.”
