Meghan pal breaks silence on surprise PFW appearance: ‘She reached out’
Meghan Markle’s attendance at the Paris Fashion Week earlier this month is continuing to cause a buzz across the pond, especially after it sent a wave of concerns at the Palace.
The Duchess of Sussex had left the public surprised as she had travelled solo to the European continent – a turf belonging to her in-laws, the British royals – to support her longtime friend Pierpaolo Piccioli, who had taken his new position as the Creative Director of Balenciaga.
Making a chic appearance in the brand’s two sleek ensembles, it was assumed that Meghan had been invited to the coveted event where she rubbed shoulders with big names like Anna Wintour.
Speculation about her foray in the fashion world was quick to pick up, as experts suggested that a new venture was on the cards.
Although, the designer finally cleared the air about the appearance, which was not initially planned until the As Ever founder had made the first move to reach out.
“Meghan and I met some years ago, and we’ve been texting ever since,” Pierpaolo revealed during an interview with The Cut. “She reached out and said she’d love to come to the show.”
He explained, “There was no strategy or big orchestration. I didn’t tell anyone she was coming because I wanted it to stay a surprise. In fashion, real surprises are rare, and this one was beautiful.”
Despite the slew of mixed reviews, the designer was notably happy to be provide Meghan with an opportunity to attend her first major fashion event.
The update also comes after royal sources revealed that there had been some concerns at the Palace about Meghan “easing herself back into its orbit”.
A former courtier had said that this “changes everything” and that’s “not what anyone expected”. |
