Now, reports suggest that the Duke of York has only been paying his water bills at Royal Lodge from \“time to time,\“ amid increasing pressure to vacate the property.
According to reports, Andrew\“s water bills amounted to approximately £743 annually totalling an estimated £14,860 over his two decades of residence.
On Tuesday, MPs from the Commons Treasury Committee and the Public Accounts Committe signalled they may now investigate the Crown Estate\“s handling of the Royal Lodge lease.
Documents obtained by the Times reveal that Andrew paid £1million for the lease and at least £7.5 million towards extensive refurbishments completed in 2005.
Following these disclosures, MPs charged with financial oversight suggested there are sufficient grounds for further scrutiny.
\“Where money flows, particularly where taxpayers\“ money is involved, or taxpayers\“ interests are involved, Parliament has a responsibility to have a light shine upon that,\“ said Dame Meg Hiller, Chairwoman of the Treasury Committee during an interview on BBC\“s Today programe.\“ |
