Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight was bound to return shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue reported on October 29, 2025.

Pilots on the Singapore-bound flight SQ228 urgently called air traffic control after departure at around 4:52pm.

Meanwhile, no serious emergency was declared, it was an incident serious enough to force the Boeing 777 to return to Melbourne, where it landed at 5.47pm.

In this connection, a Melbourne Airport spokesperson said, “Shortly after take-off, the flight made the decision to return to Melbourne Airport due to a technical issue.”

He further explained, “The plane landed under normal conditions before taxiing safely to the gate.”

A video shared with 7NEWS showed the plane dumping fuel about two kilometers above homes in Melbourne’s outlying districts, an altitude that allows the fuel to dissipate safely.

The accurate reasons for this particular incident have not been revealed, but authorities primarily focused on the safety of passengers.
