Prince Edward did his brother proud as he was honoured during newest mission assigned by the Palace as the royal carries on the legacy of their late father.

The Duke of Edinburgh was given a warm reception as he arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, on Monday to conduct an important week-long tour as part of his royal duties.

The royal, who has inherited his father Prince Philip’s title of Duke of Edinburgh courtesy of his brother King Charles, held an important meeting with the President Bola Tinubu to discuss the crucial upcoming event to be held in Lagos. He was welcomed the president at the State House for the talks.

The British embassy in Nigeria shared an update from the trip about Edward.

“We’re delighted to welcome HRH Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, @theroyalfamily to Nigeria,” it stated. “His visit celebrates Nigeria’s vibrant youth, rich cultural diversity, and the global impact of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as it nears its 70th anniversary.”

They also shared a statement in which they shared an update about the “great discussion” about empowering young

people and expanding the Duke of Edinburgh Award across Nigeria and Africa. The award is a global framework for non-formal education, empowering young people to develop skills, resilience, and a spirit of service. It is delivered through schools, youth organisations, and community groups worldwide.

Edward lauded President Tinubu on the economic reforms that have received positive reviews from the world and assured that the award ceremony will make a significant contribution in the development and the growth of the nation’s youth.

Prince Edward said the will celebrate the talents and efforts of Nigerians in pursuing their passions, developing relevant skills, and contributing to the nation’s growth and development.

He revealed that 320 Nigerian youths will be recognised in the various events of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, held in Lagos, with the partnership of the Lagos State Government.
