 Prince William and Kate go backstage for private peek at Tom Fletcher’s bear
Princess Kate and William swept into the Royal Variety Performance on Wednesday beaming like they owned the place.
The annual extravaganza raised the curtain in support of the Royal Variety Charity.
The organisation helps those who’ve worked in entertainment, expanded its efforts in 2024 by launching a dedicated team for performers struggling with mental health.
William and Kate were treated to an exclusive look at Paddington the Musical, the new production composed by McFly’s Tom Fletcher, proving that the little bear from Peru can charm royalty just as easily as the rest of the nation.
To mark its spectacular 40th anniversary, Les Misérables unleashed a powerhouse lineup from both its West End and Paris casts including Michael Ball, Matt Lucas and Killian Donnelly delivering vocals strong enough to rattle the chandeliers.
And because variety means exactly that, Jessie J and Laufey took to the stage to add a musical flourish that ranged from powerhouse pop to dreamy jazz.
Nine year old twins Emelia and Olivia Edwards stepped forward to present the princess with flowers.
The Princess of Wales revealed that her little trio back home were deeply unimpressed about missing this year’s performance.
“My kiddies were really disappointed… we’ll have to keep it hush-hush that I got to see you,” Kate told the girls with a conspiratorial smile, admitting her children were desperate to watch the special Paddington featured at the event.
The twins then handed William the official programme, earning a warm thank you and a compliment from the prince, “You two look very lovely tonight.”
When Olivia mentioned that Billie Eilish tops her playlist, William nodded approvingly.
“Excellent choice,” he grinned, before telling the pair, “You’re both incredibly smiley.” |
