 Dwayne Johnson reveals emotional tribute in new Jumanji sequel
The Jumanji team has officially kicked off production, and the cast marked the moment by sharing the first on-set photo in full costume.
The image, posted Wednesday on Instagram by the film’s stars and production team, features Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black with the caption, “Look who’s on the loose.”
Hart added his own excitement, writing, “Back in action and loving it… I missed you Jumanji … This one will be our biggest!”
A new chapter in the franchise, the film follows 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s The Next Level. Director Jake Kasdan, who steered both blockbusters, returns once again and co-wrote the script with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The untitled sequel is set to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
A day earlier, Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes video from the Universal Studios backlot as he headed to set. “A little day one of Jumanji excitement,” he said. “So good to be shooting in Los Angeles… it feels so good to bring a production back home to Los Angeles.”
Johnson also revealed a sentimental detail about his character’s new look: a necklace holding the dice from the original 1995 Jumanji.
“This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji,” he explained.
Returning cast members include Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Lamorne Morris and Danny DeVito.
Last week, Johnson shared photos and clips from the table read, writing, “Amazing to get the whole gang back together, and our jaws were hurting from laughing so hard.” |
