Duke of Kent reacts after receiving special honour from King Charles
King Charles had tried to give some solace to his uncle Edward, Duke of Kent, after he had suffered the tragic loss of his wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent.
The heartbroken royal had marked an important milestone on Thursday, October 9, as he turned 90, just a month after losing his wife. Despite it being a sombre time for the Kent family, Edward found some joy in private celebration after Buckingham Palace had made a huge announcement for him.
The office of the monarch released a special greeting for the royal and revealed that Charles will be hosting a “birthday reception” at Windsor Castle in late October.
Edward, who was the first cousin of late Queen Elizabeth II, marked the news with private celebration of his own, which was also attended by members of British Poles – a group that focuses on Poles in the UK and British and Polish relations.
It was disclosed in a social media post by the British Poles, who gave a glimpse into the intimate gathering where, the 90-year-old was presented with a birthday cake.
They noted that at the “memorable” event, Edward’s brother, Prince Michael of Kent, and “many distinguished guests were also present”.
September was a sad month for the royal family as they bid their final farewell to Katharine, who died at the age of 92. The Duchess was surrounded by her family and loved ones as she breathed her last at Kensington Palace.
Her funeral service saw some emotional goodbyes, especially from Duchess Sophie, who blew a kiss to the hearse as the late royal was taken for her final burial. |
