Meghan Markle commanded the spotlight solo in Washington, D.C., as she took the stage at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit to share insights into her growing media and business empire.
Speaking on the second day of the event, the Duchess of Sussex discussed the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and her evolving relationship with Netflix.
During a session titled “Next Level Influence: A Conversation With Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,” Fortune’s Editor in Chief Alyson Shontell explored how Meghan and Prince Harry navigated content partnerships after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
Meghan explained, “My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas’ deal.
Once that had come to its term, the extension of it which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership was now being in a first-look deal.
Which is also exciting because it gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else.” Meghan explains how first look deal with Netflix expands content options
When asked about a potential third season of With Love, Meghan, she revealed, “Well, the holiday special is coming out in November. It’s a really good one.”
She added insight into the series’ evolving format, noting that after producing eight episodes across two seasons, she and her team are experimenting with shorter content to meet audience needs.
“It’s amazing to sit and watch a show for 30 minutes, but how can I give you a recipe in two minutes?” Meghan explained, drawing on her experience from seven years on Suits to balance production demands with viewer engagement.
The Duchess also highlighted her growing entrepreneurial ambitions, including the launch of her lifestyle brand As Ever.
Speaking to PEOPLE, she emphasized that she doesn’t see herself as an influencer, but as a business founder and entrepreneur.
“I see myself as an entrepreneur and a female founder, and if the brand ends up influential, then that’s great,” she said, highlighting her ambition to build a lasting, meaningful business.
The summit, running from October 13 to 15, features an impressive lineup of speakers including former Vice President Kamala Harris, singer Selena Gomez, author Brené Brown, USA Basketball Women’s National Team coach Kara Lawson, and J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon. |
