Harkers Island offers excellent fishing opportunities throughout the year. The current fishing report indicates strong catches of speckled trout, red drum, and flounder in the nearby waters. Anglers are having success using live shrimp and artificial lures near the grass beds and oyster rocks.
The weather conditions have been favorable with mild temperatures and light winds, making for ideal fishing conditions. Water temperatures are averaging around 68°F, and the water clarity is good in most areas. The best fishing times have been during the incoming tide early in the morning and late afternoon.
Local guides report that the Spanish mackerel run is beginning to pick up offshore, while the inshore bite for puppy drum remains consistent. Several citation-sized fish have been recorded this week, including a 42-inch red drum caught near the Cape Lookout jetty. |
