An AGP slot, or Accelerated Graphics Port slot, is a dedicated expansion slot on a computer motherboard designed specifically for graphics cards. Its primary function is to provide a high-speed connection between the graphics card and the system\“s memory and processor, enabling faster data transfer for rendering complex images, videos, and 3D graphics in applications like gaming and multimedia software. Unlike older PCI slots, AGP offers direct access to system RAM for texture storage, reducing bottlenecks and improving overall graphics performance. Although largely replaced by PCI Express slots in modern computers, AGP was a significant advancement in the late 1990s and early 2000s for enhancing visual computing experiences. |
