Eligible Countries for DV Lottery 2017

The Diversity Visa Lottery program for 2017, also known as the Green Card Lottery, had specific eligibility requirements regarding country of origin. Countries with high rates of immigration to the United States in previous years were typically excluded from participation.

For DV-2017, natives of the following countries were NOT eligible to apply: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China （mainland-born）, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom （except Northern Ireland） and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.

Pakistan was among the countries whose natives were ineligible for the DV-2017 lottery due to having more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years. This exclusion is based on immigration patterns and aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States.

The eligibility criteria are reviewed annually, and countries may be added or removed from the ineligible list based on recent immigration statistics. Applicants must meet education or work experience requirements in addition to being from an eligible country.
