Gamble in English means to play games of chance for money or to take risky action in the hope of a desired result. In Pakistan, gambling is generally prohibited under Islamic law, which considers it haram （forbidden）. However, the concept of taking calculated risks in business is widely accepted and practiced.
Traditional Pakistani culture emphasizes hard work and honest earnings rather than quick gains through gambling. While modern casinos and betting are illegal, friendly card games during social gatherings sometimes involve small stakes, but these are viewed as entertainment rather than serious gambling.
The Urdu equivalent for gamble is \“jua\“ which carries similar connotations of games of chance. Pakistani society generally discourages gambling activities due to religious and social considerations, promoting instead the values of patience, perseverance, and lawful income generation. |
