A standard poker deck contains 52 playing cards. These cards are divided into four suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. Each suit has 13 cards, consisting of an ace, numbers 2 through 10, and three face cards (jack, queen, and king).
In addition to the 52 standard cards, many poker decks include two joker cards, bringing the total to 54 cards. However, in most traditional poker games, jokers are not used, and only the 52 main cards are included in gameplay.
The 52-card deck has been the standard for poker and many other card games since the 19th century. The design and composition of poker decks have remained remarkably consistent across different countries and cultures. |
